Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), also known as coronary
angioplasty or angioplasty, is a minimally invasive procedure to treat coronary
artery disease by restoring blood flow to the heart. It involves inserting a
catheter with a balloon at its tip into the narrowed or blocked artery, inflating
the balloon to widen it, and often placing a stent to keep it open.
